Crest Hardware Art Show
WHERE ANDY WARHOL MEETS HANDY WARHOL

Crest Hardware Art Show- Mixing a nearly half century old family owned hardware store with New York’s ever-changing vibrant artist community.

On June 13th the eighth run of the legendary Crest Hardware Art Show will kick start this summer art season. The show will open in conjunction with the first ever all day event, Crest Fest in Macri Park with sculptures, art and design vendors, food, drinks and live music. Crest Hardware will offer over 5000 sq ft to over a hundred local artists to showcase pieces about-with-for and inspired by hardware. Customers and the general public are invited to discover the installations displayed and sometimes hidden throughout the store free of charge.

For the first Crest Hardware Art Show in May of 1994 performance artist Gene Pool along with founder and owner Manuel Franquinha joined forces by inviting the bohemian New York artists already crowding the aisles to make art with hardware. The show has been a hit ever since and Crest Hardware was dubbed the store that has “art and soul” by the New York Daily News, Best of New York Series. Joseph Franquinha, manager of Crest Hardware and curator of last year’s Crest Hardware Art Show, keeps the art and soul alive this year by expanding on the show’s already deep-rooted history.

Williamsburgers, Brooklynites, New Yorkers and beyond are asked to join us in
continuing a long held tradition of celebrating community, bringing art outside the
gallery and hardware outside the workshop. The New York Times said about last years show, “ the 24-foot-BMX bike hanging from the ceiling is a good hint that there is more to this hardware store than hammers and drills.”

June 13th: Crest Fest 1PM to 9PM and opening day for the Crest Hardware Art Show

PEP is excited to present Downright, an illustration show, curated by our own Jashar Awan. In anticipation of the December release of Taschen's Illustration Now 2, in which Awan is featured, we asked Jashar, an artist whose work has been seen in many galleries and in popular publications such as The New York Times, Vibe, and The New Yorker, to put together a show of his favorite comtemporary illustrators. The outcome is a gathering of 40 artists pulled together in one spot, PEP. From highly renowned artists to rising stars, the show is not to be missed.

"The illustrators that I chose for this show are friends, family, mentors and people whose work I've admired from afar. Despite the large number of artists in this show, no one is stepping on the visual toes of any other participant. The common element between these 40 artists is the honesty that I see in their work. They are all making art that truly comes from them. They have fully absorbed their influences and their art is not swayed by trends. The work is unforced, candid and sincere - in a word, downright."
